Down payment

Buying counts the cash you put in, the loan payments, taxes, insurance and upkeep, less what you'd keep from selling after paying off the loan. Assumes a 30-year loan at 7.28%, home values rising 3% and rents 3% a year, 1% of the home's value a year for upkeep, 3% to buy and 6% to sell, and that cash put into buying would otherwise earn 4% a year.

Guidelines only. The landlord decides what it takes to qualify. Consult a real estate professional and/or a financial advisor before making decisions.
